Privacy and cookies
Kaido Comics is run by the Kaido Comics team. This page explains which cookies the site uses, what you can turn off, and what we keep when you log in with a social network.
Necessary cookies
These make the site work. They stay on this site, are not used for analytics or ads, and need no consent.
| Cookie | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| kaido_session | Keeps you signed in. Set only when you log in. | 400 days |
| kaido_consent | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies. | 1 year |
| age_ok | Remembers that you confirmed you are 18 or older. Signed in, your account remembers it too; logging out clears it here. | 1 year |
| adult | Whether adult (18+) content is on. | 1 year |
| adult_covers | Set when you choose to keep adult covers blurred. | 1 year |
| tr-<titleId> | Remembers which translation team you chose for a title, one cookie per title. Set only when you pick a team. | 1 year |
| anilist_state | Protects the AniList connection: it checks that the sign-in you return from is the one you started. Set only while you connect AniList. | 10 minutes |
| kaido_oauth | Protects logging in or connecting with Google, Discord, X or Facebook: it checks that the sign-in you return from is the one you started, and remembers which page to send you back to. Sent only to the sign-in routes of this site. Set only while you are signing in. | 10 minutes |
| kaido_signup | Keeps your place on the "Choose your reader name" step after a first sign-in with a network. It holds only a random key; what the network told us waits on our server, not in the cookie. Set only while that step is open. | 30 minutes |
| kaido_reads | Remembers, without an account, the last 50 titles you opened a chapter of: the chapter, the page and when. It shows Continue reading and History. Readable only by the server; when you log in it moves into your account and is deleted. | 1 year |
Counting readers without an account
One more cookie works even if you never sign up. It lets us count views and keep one reader from inflating them, which is why it is set without asking. It is not used for advertising or tracking across other sites.
| Cookie | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| kaido_vid | A random-looking id for a visitor without an account, set when you open a chapter. We use it to count views and to cap how often one reader can add views or likes in a day, without needing an account. It is made from a one-way hash of your IP address and browser, is readable only by the server, and is not shared with analytics or advertising services. Signed-in readers are counted by account instead. | 1 year |
Analytics cookies
We use analytics to see what readers like: which titles and pages are read and where the site is slow or confusing. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity run for every visitor, but until you press Accept in the cookie banner they set no cookies and cannot link your page views together: each page is counted on its own, with the time, your country and the kind of device and browser. The other services load only if you press Accept. If you reject, or have not chosen yet, none of them load and Google Analytics and Clarity stay without cookies.
We never send them your email, name, account id or what you search for. Microsoft Clarity records how a page looks, so it hides what you type into forms, and we mark the parts of a page that show your account details (your name and email, and the Telegram and AniList names you connected) so that it does not record them.
| Cookie | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics: _ga, _ga_* | Counts visits and which pages are read, without telling Google who you are. Without your consent it sets no cookies and only counts page views it cannot link together. Privacy policy | Up to 2 years |
| Yandex Metrica: _ym_* | Counts visits and shows how readers move through the site. Privacy policy | Up to 1 year |
| Microsoft Clarity: _clck, _clsk | Shows how pages are used (clicks and scrolling) so we can fix what gets in the way. Never used on 18+ pages. Without your consent it sets no cookies and sees each page on its own. Privacy policy | Up to 1 year |
| Google Tag Manager | Loads the analytics tags we set up in it, only after you accept. It sets no cookies of its own. Privacy policy | — |
| Cloudflare Web Analytics | Counts visits without cookies and without telling Cloudflare who you are. Privacy policy | No cookies |
| kaido_event | Ours. After you sign up or log in with analytics accepted, it tells the next page to report that to analytics, then it is deleted. It holds no personal data. | Up to 2 minutes |
Settings kept in your browser
The reader and the home page also save a few settings in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are not sent to us or to anyone else, and are used only to restore your choices.
| Key | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| tush:reader | Your reader settings: fit, strip width, gaps, background and dimming. | Until you clear site data |
| tush:reader:title:<titleId> | The reading mode and direction you picked for a title. | Until you clear site data |
| kaido:latest-type | The type you last chose in Latest updates on the home page. | Until you clear site data |
Changing your choice
Open (also at the bottom of every page) and press Accept or Reject. If you reject after accepting, the page reloads without the analytics services and their cookies are deleted; Google Analytics and Clarity go back to counting without cookies. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings; the banner will then ask again.
Your account
You can sign up and log in with Google, Discord, X or Facebook, whichever the site offers. Readers who made an account with an email and password before can still log in with it ("Log in with email"). We do not join accounts by email address: a network sign-in opens an account only if that network is already connected to it. The first time you use a network, you choose a reader name, and the account is created only after that.
What a network gives us
- Your user id on that network, so we know it is you next time.
- Your name or nickname there. We use it only to suggest a reader name and to label the connected network in your Settings (for Google, that label is your Google email address).
- Your email address, if the network shares it. The record of each connected network keeps the email that network last reported to us, and updates it each time you log in or connect with it. It is shown only to you in Settings and to our staff, and it is removed when you disconnect the network or delete your account.
- Your account's own email is a separate thing. It is set from a network's email only when that network says the email is verified and no other account uses it, and never from Facebook.
What we never take
Your contacts, friends, posts or profile picture. The network's access token is used once, to read the profile above, and is not saved. Your picture stays the generated one until you upload your own.
Connecting and disconnecting
In Settings, under Sign-in methods, you can connect another network or disconnect one. The last way to log in cannot be removed.
Deleting your account
In Settings, press Delete account and type DELETE. We then remove your account, library, reading history, settings, connected networks, notifications, sessions, the pictures and covers you uploaded, and the IP addresses we logged while you were signed in.
What you posted for others stays, but is shown as "Deleted reader" with no link to a profile: your comments, forum posts, collections, recommendations and ratings, and similar contributions such as likes, title edits and reports. Your coin balance and any paid Premium or subscription time are lost. Records of payments, orders and withdrawals are kept for accounting, as are moderation records.
We cannot delete an account while the reader owns a team, has a pending top-up or withdrawal, has an open order they placed, is the only admin, or is banned. The page tells you which one applies.
Facebook data deletion
If you remove the app from your Facebook settings and ask Facebook to delete your data, Facebook sends us the request. We remove the Facebook link and the data from it. If Facebook was your only way to log in, your account is deleted as described above. If the account cannot be deleted for one of the reasons above, our team reviews the request. Facebook gives you a confirmation code and a link to a status page, /privacy/deletion?code=….
To keep that page answering, we keep a short record of the request: its confirmation code, your Facebook user id and the outcome. It is used for nothing else.
To delete your data in any other way, or to ask a question, use the contact below.
Advertising
Kaido Comics shows no ads right now.
Third parties
Analytics data is processed by Google (Google Analytics), Yandex (Yandex Metrica) and Microsoft (Microsoft Clarity) under their own privacy policies, linked in the table above. Their servers may be outside your country.
If you log in with a network, that network learns that you did, and handles your data under its own policy: Google, Discord, X and Facebook.
